George J. “Sgt. Dick” George
George J. “Sgt. Dick” George, 82, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Monday morning, Aug. 30, 2004, in the Uniontown Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Born Aug. 1, 1922, in Uniontown, Pa., he was the son of the late Elias George and Mary Ann Howard George.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Sloboda and his grandson, Bradley J. George.
Dick was a member of St. George Maronite Catholic Church, A U.S. veteran serving with the Army, was a member of The American Legion Post 51, AMVETS Post 103, VFW Post 47, and served for over 50 years as Sergeant-at-Arms for The American Legion Post 51.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mabel D. Simon George; his loving children, Richard E. George and wife, Debbie of Uniontown, Ferris “Peewee” A. George and wife, Kamberly of Uniontown, Donald J. George and wife, Cheryl of Uniontown, Mary Ann Benco and her special friend, Kenny of Masontown, Blair J. George and wife, Kimberly of Uniontown, Denise Nestor and husband, Randy of Uniontown, and George J. George Jr., and wife, Julie of Tucson, Ariz.; the following grandchildren, whom he adored, Richard E. George Jr., and wife, Michelle, Gregg A. George, Anita M. George, Mark A. Benco Jr., Blair J. George Jr., Brian George, Brandon George, Randy Nestor Jr., and Nicole Nestor; a great-granddaughter, Anna Marie George; several nieces and nephews; and his special aunt, Caroline Alexander of Ohio.
Friends will be received in the STEPHEN E. KEZMARSKY III FUNERAL HOME, AT 71 PENNSYLVANIA AVE., UNIONTOWN, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday morning until 9 a.m., when Prayers of Transfer will be said, followed by a 9:30 a.m., Divine Liturgy in St. George Maronite Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Joseph David as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery. Service of Ghinnaz will be held this evening at 8 p.m. A Parish Rosary will be recited today at 4 p.m. Military services will be accorded at graveside.
