September 24, 2004 Exception approved
The Fayette County Zoning Hearing Board has approved a special exception that will allow Coolspring Stone Supply Co. to continue working its underground limestone mine on property along Jumonville Road in North Union and Dunbar townships. The property is zoned for agriculture.
Board member Leon Evans explained that Coolspring had been operating the mine without the special exception and was ordered to halt operations. Coolspring requested a hearing to appeal the order, but the board continued it Wednesday, believing it was a moot point since the special exception was granted.
The board attached a number of conditions to the special exception.
They require Coolspring not to affect local water supplies or streams, to comply with all mining laws, cover all trucks with tarps before leaving the site, coordinate truck traffic with school bus traffic, water roads to reduce dust, not to “stack” or line up trucks outside the mine, and comply with county ordinances governing fire, noise, vibration, odor, air pollution and glare from lighting.
