John H. “Jack” Ernest Jr., age 70, of Point Marion, Pa., died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at his home.

He was born March 22, 1934, in Elkins, West Virginia, son of the now late John H. Ernest Sr. and Kathleen Weese Ernest.

He was a retired United States Postal Service Letter Carrier, Morgantown (West Virginia) Post Office and member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Local 783.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force.

He graduated from Morgantown High School, Class of 1952.

He was a member of the Point Marion V.F.W. and Point Marion Eagles Club and also of their Golf League.

“Jack” enjoyed numerous outdoor activities such as golfing with his wife and friends, camping and fishing with his family, and following his beloved West Virginia University Mountaineers.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Cain Ernest, with whom he would have celebrated their 48th Wedding Anniversary on November 30, 2004; one daughter, Debbie McNamara and her husband Dennis of Peters Township, Pa.; one son, Doug Ernest and his wife Jennifer of Beckley, West Virginia; six grandchildren: Shannon, Ryan, Molly and Conor McNamara and Emily and Douglas Ernest; one brother, Don Ernest of Colorado; also brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: George and Shirley Butterworth of Point Marion, Richard and Bonnie Cain of Morgantown, West Virginia, Bill and Lynn Cain of Princess Anne, Maryland, and George and Bonny Cain of Seaford, Delaware.

Friends will be received in the LOUIS E. RUDOLPH FUNERAL HOME, 15 Main Street, Point Marion, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 27, in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kevin Cain officiating.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion. Full Military Honors will be accorded at graveside by the Marine Corps League, Monongalia County Detachment No. 342.

The family suggests that donations may be made to Morgantown Hospice, Post Office Box 4222, Morgantown, WV 26504.

Visitation was also held Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
