James M. Silbaugh
James M. Silbaugh, age 80, of Chalk Hill, Pa., passed away Friday, September 24, 2004, in Kamp’s Personal Care Home, Markleysburg, Pa.
He was born May 3, 1924, in Uniontown, Pa., son of Ralph Gordon Silbaugh and Grace (Litman) Silbaugh.
“Jim” had been a schoolteacher and principal of Wharton Furnace School.
He graduated from Uniontown High School Class of 1942, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from San Diego State University in 1954, and continued his education at The University of Butte, Montana, California State Teachers College in California, Pa. (now California University of Pennsylvania), and The Pennsylvania State University to attain his Masters Degree in Education.
He also was the Director of the Fayette County Association for Mentally Retarded Children, worked for the Welfare Office in Fayette County, was the Field Director for the American Red Cross, operated The Museum of Early Farm Machinery, operated the Lazy S Riding Stables, and owned the Chalk Hill Motel.
He served during World War II in the United States Navy and the United States Army.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Jackson Silbaugh; four daughters: Noreen Wells of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jamie Duke of San Diego, California, Geralyn Mitchell of San Diego, California, and Jeanine Silbaugh of Markleysburg, Pa.; six grandchildren: Shawn, Troy, Erika, Laura, Britney and Erin; and three brothers: Gordon “Took” Silbaugh of New Salem, Pa., Owen K. Silbaugh of Uniontown, Pa., and Jack Silbaugh of Ohio.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, Pa., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, September 29, until 11 a.m., the hour of the Service with the Rev. Terry Collins of Chalk Hill United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood, will conduct Military Services at graveside.
