Recovery center opens A disaster recovery center (DRC) is opening at the former National Record Mart at the Washington Mall, Oak Springs Road, South Strabane Township.
The center is available to assist those who suffered losses from Tropical Depression Ivan. The DRC will open today at noon and remain open until 7p.m. After that, the DRC will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., 7 days a week until further notice.
Individuals may speak with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) about flood and homeowners insurance, health and welfare assistance, crisis counseling and aging services. Available information will include disaster housing assistance for families displaced from damaged homes, low-interest federal loans and grants for those ineligible for loans.
Before visiting the DRC, flood victims who sustained damage should first register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3363. People with hearing or speech impairments may call TTY 1-800462-7585.
Washington County flood victims who need transportation to the DRC can contact the Washington County Transportation Authority at 800-331-5058 to arrange for free transportation.
Meeting announced
A meeting will be held for all United Mine Workers of America retirees, widows and all interested parties will be held Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Local Union 6290 Union Hall at Nemacolin to update beneficiaries and their families of ongoing financial crisis of the UMWA’s Combined Benefit Fund Medical Benefits.
Reunion announced
The former Excelsior Club of Uniontown will hold a reunion at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sun Porch Restaurant on Route 40 in Uniontown.
