Alleged robber surrenders to police
Steven Brock Price, 37, of 109 Painter St., Connellsville, surrendered to state police Wednesday and was arraigned on charges alleging he robbed a motel in South Union Township and a tanning salon in North Union Township on Tuesday. He was arraigned before South Union Township District Justice Rick Vernon and committed to the county prison in lieu of $100,000 straight bond on the motel robbery charges and another $100,000 straight bond for the tanning salon charges.
Preliminary hearings for both cases have been scheduled for Oct. 7. The hearing on the charges filed for the robbery at Golden Reflections Tanning Salon on North Gallatin Avenue Extension is set for 10 a.m. before North Union Township District Justice Deberah Kula. The hearing for the robbery at the Super 8 Motel on Route 40 is set for 1:30 p.m. before Vernon.
He was charged with robbery and theft for allegedly robbing the motel at 2 a.m.
Police said Price told a clerk that he had a weapon and demanded money. The clerk gave him approximately $50 before he fled.
At 7:30 a.m., Price allegedly entered the Kwik-Fill gas station on Route 40 in North Union wearing a hood and demanded money. An employee was near the door and managed to push Price outside. He then fled.
That employee called the manager at the Kwik-Fill on Route 40 in South Union and reported what had happened. The manager saw a man matching the description of the suspect approaching the store and locked the door before he could enter, police said.
He drove away in a white Dodge Intrepid, police said.
Price then drove to the tanning salon and demanded money from the female owner, police said.
She gave him approximately $300 and he drove away, but she followed him, police said.
He went to McDonalds on Route 40, but he recognized the salon owner and left in the car, police said. The car was abandoned near Uniontown.
Price was charged with robbery, theft and criminal attempt to commit robbery and theft for the salon robbery.
