Local briefs
Shuttle offered The Laurel Highlands School District will provide shuttle bus service for the Laurel Highlands/Albert Gallatin football game Friday evening.
The district will hold Community Spirit Night along with Homecoming. This will limit parking spaces that are available on school grounds.
A shuttle bus from Clark Elementary School to the high school will be in operation starting at 5:30 p.m., with game time scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Shuttles will run on an as-needed basis, and the district suggests that people park at Clark and take advantage of the bus shuttle.
Clark Elementary School is located at 200 Water St. and is two-tenths of a mile from the high school. The shuttle will pick people up at Clark and will drop off at a convenient point at the upper main entrance to the stadium.
The shuttle will be on stand-by and will provide service for those needing to leave prior to the end of the game, picking up fans at the upper main entrance. After the game, the shuttle will pick fans up at the upper main entrance and will provide service until all those who have parked at Clark have been accommodated.
In addition, the district recommends that people do their best to carpool to limit the number of automobiles at both sites as there is limited parking available.
Grant awarded
U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Holidaysburg) said Tuesday that a $50,000 federal grant has been awarded to the Fayette County Community Action Agency.
Shuster said the funding will be used for the Disease Prevention and Health Collaboration Project and is allocated through the Department of Health and Human Services.
“We are excited to receive funding for this initiative because it will encourage the community to get involved,” said Jim Stark, executive director of the Fayette County Community Action Agency. “We appreciate the help and support of Congressman Shuster for this project.”
