Rachel M. Hayes
Rachel M. Thompson Hayes, 92, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2004, in the Brownsville General Hospital. She was born April 17, 1912, in Uniontown, Pa., daughter of the late Daniel Hayes and Helen Braxton Hayes. She was the fifth of eight children.
She graduated from Uniontown High School and later moved to Winston-Salem, N.C., where she later met and married Leo D. Thompson, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one brother, W. Randolph Hayes of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; one sister, Mary Lewis of Anderson, S.C.; step-children, Willie Thompson, Eugenia King, Wilfred Thompson, Hattie Shaw, Lacy Thompson, Louise McGill and Evelyn Thomas, all of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Leo Thompson, Jr., of Connecticut; a number of step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Emma Turpin of Uniontown, Pa.
Friends will be received in the MURIEL E. LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 East Main Street, Uniontown, Pa., Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., where a brief memorial service will be held before shipping her remains to Winston-Salem, N.C., for interment in the New Evergreen Cemetery.
