Betty J. Jeffries
Betty Jane Tolbert Jeffries, 73, of Uniontown, Pa., died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, in her residence. She was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Fairchance, Pa., daughter of the late Edward Raymond Tolbert and Eleanor Walters Tolbert.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Robert L. “Pogo” Jeffries, a son, Staff Sergeant Mickey L. Jeffries, a sister, Janet Tolbert Wolfe and sister-in-law, Patty Jo Jeffries Brockwell.
Betty Jane graduated from Fairchance High School in 1949. She worked at the Louis Movie Theater in Fairchance, Pegs Dairy Bar, Parents Institute in Youngstown, Ohio, VFW Post 47 and American Legion Post 51, both of Uniontown, W.T. Grant Company, Carilee Inc., Connellsville, Pa., Gnagey Gas and Oil Company and Fayette Fuel Company.
She has been secretary of Rosedale Softball Team, secretary and treasurer of the Mustang Bowling League, secretary and treasurer of Dawson Saddle Club and Board Member on Community Action Medical Services.
Surviving are her son, Robert Edward “Bobby” Jeffries of Uniontown, Pa.; a sister, Shirley L. Meyers of Youngstown, Ohio; four grandchildren, Michael Jeffries and wife, Debbie of Oliphant Furnace, Pa., David Jeffries and wife, Melissa of Uniontown, Pa., Stacy Jeffries of Uniontown, Pa., and Kristi Jeffries of Uniontown, Pa.; seven great-grandchildren, Mikey, Nicole, David, Dustin, Katlyn, Cole and Harley; and a daughter-in-law, Rita Jeffries of Uniontown, Pa.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, Pa., on Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Scott Teets officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Brownfield, Pa.
