Douglas Dean
Douglas Dean, 82, of Elco, Pa., died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005. He was born June 3, 1923, in Roscoe, Pa., a son of the late Charles and Florence Astle Dean.
He was a member of the Roscoe Presbyterian Church, the Mon Valley Lodge No. 461 F. & A.M., California, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, Syria Temple A.A.O.N.M., of Pittsburgh, Hillbilly Clan 53 of Pittsburgh, Past President of the Camel Wheels Patrol, Deputy Unit Syria Temple, Charleroi Caravan No. 17, Roscoe Sportsmen’s Association, Roscoe American Legion Post 801, Charleroi Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 167, Past Chairman of MID Mon Valley W.P.C.A., and one of the founders of Five-Town Community Park.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the American, European and Asian Theaters, and was an avid golfer.
He was a retired Supervisor for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Tube Division, Allenport Plant for 40 years.
Surviving are one son, Douglas Dean Jr., and wife, Stefanie of Charleroi; four daughters, Rebecca Holt and husband, Ralph of Richeyville, Roberta (Bobbie) Kozuch and husband, Denny of Friendens, Pamela Messina and husband, Michael of Stockdale, and Colleen Martin and husband, Chad of Elco; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Dean on May 29, 2002;, seven brothers, Charles, Fred, Thomas, Leslie, Robert, Ray and Loyal, and two sisters, Hilda and Roberta.
Family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., Roscoe. The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.., today. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m., and American Legion Service at 7:30 p.m., today. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m., in the funeral home, with the Rev. John Rankin, officiating. Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery.
