Anthony “Tony” LaCava

Anthony “Tony” LaCava, age 90, of Uniontown, Pa., died Wednesday, August 3, 2005, in Beverly HealthCare. He was born November 4, 1914, in Lambert, Fayette County, Pa., the son of Vincent LaCava and Mary Louise Piemonte LaCava.

He graduated from the now former German Township High School, Class of 1932, and Waynesburg College in 1956.

He was a World War II veteran who served with the 8th Army Air Corps in England and North Africa and was honorably discharged from the 1252nd Army Air Force Base Unit.

“Tony” was a self-employed grocer who, with his brother, owned the LaCava Grocery & Gas Station on Middle Run Road and later owned and operated the Palmer Superette in Adah, Pa.

He was a member of Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown, Pa., the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 47, United Commercial Traveler’s and Slovenska Narodna Podporns Jednota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Angelo LaCava, and sisters, Patsy Martucci, Josephine Caruso, Helen LeDonne, Mary Louise Ponterero, Elvira J. LaCava and Erminia LaCava who died in infancy.

His wife, Mary Margaret Byers LaCava, survives him along with sons Franklin V. LaCava of Uniontown, Pa., and Anthony H. LaCava and wife, Christine of Pittsburgh, Pa.; daughters: Mary Louise “Mimi” McDonough and husband, Douglas, of Uniontown, Pa., and Patricia “Patty” LaCava of San Franciso, California.; one grandson, Nathaniel LaCava Gallpeau of San Franciso, California; and a sister, Rosemary LaCava Eggers of Medina, Ohio.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa., where friends will be received today (Monday, August 8) until 9 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill Street, Uniontown, with the Rev. Father Kenneth G. Zaccagnini, V.F., as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Saint Agnes Cemetery, Leckrone.

Full military rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Post No. 47 at the cemetery.

The family suggests donations may be made to Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post No. 47, or Beverly HealthCare Activities Fund.

Visitation was also held Sunday from noon until 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
