Thomas A. Sabula, 65, of Republic, Pa., died Aug. 3, 2005, in Republic. He was born Feb. 25, 1940, in Republic, the son of the late Paul and Margaret Kupets Sabula.

Mr. Sabula was a 1958 graduate of Redstone High School and graduated from California University of Pennsylvania, and also attended Edinboro University, Ohio State University, Colorado State University, I.U.P., Lake Erie College and received Associate Professor from University of Houston, Texas, where he was a co-writer for two publications on Geology. He was a County Extension Agent for West Virginia, and host of his own radio show on W.T.O.V. of West Virginia, and wrote newspaper articles for the local Weirton, West Virginia newspaper.

He became a school teacher for Clearfield Area Schools, where he taught Math and Science until his retirement in 1998, and also worked as a coal miner for Emerald Mine of Waynesburg for 13 years.

At the age of 21, Mr. Sabula flew solo and received his pilot’s license.

He was a member of the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Republic, and the National Science Foundation. He enjoyed fishing, horse racing and spending quality time with his grandchildren and cousin, Joe Kopacko.

On July 28, 1981, he married Garnet D. Kint, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Gale and husband Chris Pentz and Sherri and husband, Duane (“Zeke”) Swoope; one son, Stanley and wife, Kimberly Clish; one son-in-law, Whitney and wife, Geri White; two brothers-in-law, Barry and Dwane Kint, both of Marianna; eight grandchildren, Whitney James and Nicholas Thomas White, Daniel Lee Carfley, Carissa Diane and Travis Michael Swoope, Dale Garnet Clish, Jena Zoe and Joseph Hunter Davis; a niece, Rachel; and a nephews, Jason Kint.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by twin brothers, George and Paul Sabula.
