Ross J. (R.J.) Huhn

Ross J. (R.J.) Huhn, age 79, a guest of Greensburg Care Center and formerly of Saltsburg, Pa., and Smithfield, Pa., passed away Monday, August 15, 2005, in Greensburg following a short illness. He was born in Smithfield, Pa. on July 25, 1926, a son of the now late Harland (Polly) Huhn and Bertha E. Burchinal Huhn.

He was a former member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Smithfield, Pa.

R.J. was a veteran of World War II having served with the United States Navy.

Ross (Peanuts as he was known) was a graduate of Bethany College and was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 32 years as a materials engineer.

Commissioner Ross Huhn was first appointed a member of the PA Fish and Boat Commission by the then Governor Richard Thornburgh on June 17, 1980. He has been active in many sportsmens groups and has devoted many years to the conservation of Pennsylvania’s Natural Resources. He was also a member of Trout Unlimited, Izack Walton League of America and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. He was instrumental in the organization of and was a charter member of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council where belonged to the Hall of Fame.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Seaton Huhn.

He is survived by: one sister, Jane Huhn Farren and husband, Eugene of Johnstown, Pa. and nephews: Gary and Larry Farren, Ted Huhn and niece Holly Huhn Crane.

The family will receive Friends in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF SMITHFIELD on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, August 18, 2005, until 11 a.m. the Hour of Service with the Rev. Jay Hurley Officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery in Smithfield, Pa.
