George E. (Gene) Sullivan Sr.

George E. (Gene) Sullivan Sr., 61, of Connellsville, Pa., passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, at his home. He was born March 2, 1944, in Uniontown, a son of the late Todd V. and Mildred D. Scott Sullivan.

He was Protestant by faith.

Gene was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 301 and V.F.W. Post 21, having proudly participated in military funerals for several years. He was also a member of the Sons of Columbus, Independent Italian Club and dual member of the Connellsville and Dunbar Eagles.

He is survived by two sons, George E. Sullivan Jr., of Uniontown, and Benjamin J. Sullivan of Fairchance; four grandchildren, Ryan Holland, Sabrina Sullivan, Holly Norman and Tricia Mitchell; three great-grandchildren, Roger Young III, Angela M. Clemmer and Destiny A. Norman; a brother, Abraham L. Sullivan and wife, Darlene of Lemont Furnace; and a sister, Freda Frazer of New York state.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy M. Pierce, and a brother, John R. Sullivan.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 19, in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 South First St., West Side, Connellsville, where a memorial service will be held, with the American Legion Post 301 Chaplain officiating, followed by military rites by members of the American Legion Post 301, V.F.W. 21 and American Legion Trotter Post 762.
