Local townships hold meetings
Springhill Township The supervisors appointed Sandra T. Crimbly as the township’s tax collector Thursday after Crimbly’s husband, who was serving his third term in the position, unexpectedly died last month.
Ben P. “Butch” Crimbly Jr. died July 21 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., at the age of 61. Crimbly won the May primary for a fourth term for tax collector and would have run unopposed in the November general election.
His wife, Sandra T. Crimbly, will fill the remainder of his term, and her name will be on the ballot come November.
In other business, the supervisors announced they will finish paving Gans Hill School Road and plan to soon begin a paving project on Greater Point Marion and Nilan Hill roads with time and weather permitting.
Georges Township
At a brief regular meeting Thursday, the township supervisors agreed to maintain the roads in Smithfield Estates by signing an agreement with the developer of the growing housing subdivision located along Morgantown Road.
The supervisors also announced they will seek bids for curbside collection of recycling material since their contract with Goodwill Industries has expired.
Lastly, the supervisors executed a bond agreement with C&C Lumber for $20,000. The supervisors said the lumber company will lumber the woods along East Elm Street for three months.
