Police continue to probe suspicious death

By Jennifer Harr 2 min read

State police have not yet released the name of a woman found dead in Redstone Creek on Wednesday evening, and authorities planned to take the body for autopsy late Thursday afternoon. Fayette County District Attorney Nancy D. Vernon said authorities have yet to identify the woman, whom Coroner Dr. Phillip E. Reilly said was 20 to 30 years old and died under “highly suspicious” circumstances.

Vernon said the body will undergo autopsy, as well as X-rays, to help determine the cause of death.

Because the case is still under investigation, Vernon declined to go into specifics about how the woman was clothed or how she might have died.

She did say, however, that there were injuries to the body, “but it’s difficult to decipher at this point if it’s an injury from an inflicted wound or falling.”

Police were called to the area of Redstone Creek, west of Coffey Street in North Union Township, after passers-by found the body around 7:30 p.m.

Reilly said Wednesday that both Uniontown city police and state police were investigating reports of missing people. On Thursday, however, Uniontown Police Chief Kyle Sneddon said he does not believe the body was from the most recent missing person’s case in the city. The woman city police thought it could have been was located Thursday morning, Sneddon said.

In a brief press release, state police criminal investigator trooper Scott Lucas indicated only that the body found was that of a white woman.
