Dorothy Gurick Lizza
Dorothy M. Gurick Lizza, age 77, of Dunbar, Pa., died Saturday, August 20, 2005, in Excela Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant, Pa. She was born September 24, 1927, in Bobtown, Pa., daughter of Michael Gurick and Dorothy Smitley Gurick Papula.
Dorothy was a member of Saint Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Dunbar, Pa., and its Altar and Rosary Society and was very active in the Saint Aloysius Church festivals.
She was a Girl Scout Leader in Dunbar, had been employed as a Loader at Keystone Fireworks in Dunbar and was an active participant in the Dunbar Lions Rummage sales.
Dorothy graduated in the Class of 1945 from the now former North Union High School in Uniontown, Pa.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her family! She also enjoyed playing slots and bowling.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, John Papula, an infant son in 1963, and a sister, Judith Gurick Baran on Monday, August 1, 2005.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Harry E. Lizza, whom she married April 10, 1950. Also surviving are two daughters: Patricia “Patty” A. Gambone and husband James, Dunbar, Pa., and Sandra “Sandy” Kimmel and husband Timothy “Tim”, Connellsville, Pa.; a sister, Maureen Dill and husband Jules, Ebensburg, Pa.; and five grandchildren: Jason Gambone, David Gambone, Amanda Kimmel, Gina Kimmel and Adam Kimmel.
Friends will be received in the BURHANS-CROUSE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Connellsville Street, Dunbar, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, August 23, until 9:30 a.m. when Morning Prayers will be said.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in Saint Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Ranch Road, Dunbar, with Monsignor J. Edward McCullough as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Dunbar.
The Rosary will be recited in the Funeral Home today at 4 p.m.
