John J. Gurchak

John J. Gurchak, age 82, of West Brownsville, Pa., died on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, in his residence. He was born July 23, 1923, in West Brownsville, Pa., son of the late Michael J. and Anna Hmell Gurchak.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Joseph, and sisters, Ann and Kate.

John was a member of the Historic Church of Saint Peter and a former member of Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Brownsville, Pa.

He was a graduate of East Pike Run High School and worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

He served his country proudly during World War II with the United States Army and was a member of the VFW Post 47, Uniontown, Pa and a lifelong member of the Slovak Sokol Lodge No. 461.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Viola Kapel Gurchak; a brother, Andrew Gurchak of West Brownsville; sisters: Margaret Offinitz of Parma, Ohio, Mary Dvorak of Parma, Ohio, Helen Singleton of Brownsville, Pa., Frances Stechly of Florida and Barbara Maston of Marylan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville,Pa., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., where a Prayer Service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., in the Historic Church of Saint Peter, with the Rev. Fr. Vincent Gigliotti as celebrant. Entombment will be in LaFayette Memorial Park. Catholic Daughters Court of Brownsville will recite the Rosary at 3 p.m. Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., on Friday. Full Miliary Rites will be accorded by VFW Post 47..
