– PAHS and Frazier Cross Country Team’s third annual Pioneer Community Days two-mile run will be held Oct. 1 at Sampey Park. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration at 7:30. – The Frazier Class of 2005 graduation DVDs are available for pick up in the high school office.

– Local members of the Greensburg Diocesan Choir are raising money for a trip to Italy to sing for the Pope in Rome.

Peach Festival

The PAHS is holding a peach festival today from noon to 4 p.m. at Sampey Park. The price is $4 for adults, $2 for children and free for ages 5 and under. The George Washington Grist Mill will be open for tours. Proceeds benefit the Perry Area Heritage Society.

Library

The Mary Fuller Frazier Community Library will have a Children’s Story Hour on Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to noon. The theme is Raggedy Ann. All children are welcome to attend.

The library will be closed for Labor Day from Sept. 3 to 5 and reopen on Sept. 6, when extended hours will begin. Extended hours are 3:05 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cheerleading

Rocks and Rolls all-star cheerleading squad recently competed at Carmichael’s King Coal cheerleading competition on Aug. 20. The girls obtained the highest overall score for their division and received the Judge’s Choice Award for their excellent performance.

The girls will next compete at the Atlantic Coast Regional Competition to be held at Charleroi High School on Sept. 17.

Entertainment schedule

The Perryopolis Moose will hold dances on the following Saturday nights beginning at 9: Sept. 3, Abandoned Southern and Classic Rock; Sept. 10, Powerplay, DJ Karaoke; Sept. 24, Wayback classic rock band; Oct. 1, Old Shoes Rock, country oldies; Oct. 8, Dreamcatcher; Oct 29, Halloween party, Roger Rush Country Band; Nov. 12, Powerplay DJ Karaoke; Nov. 19, Country Thunder; Nov. 26, Old Shoes; Dec. 3, Powerplay DJ Karaoke; and Dec 17, Christmas party. Come ring in the New Year with the Moose and Roger Rush.

White Cane Day

The Perryopolis Lions Club announces its annual White Cane Drive on Friday and Saturday. The neighborhood Lions will be on hand to ask the generous residents of Perryopolis for a donation to this worthy cause at the following locations: National City Bank, Save-A-Lot, Randall’s Restaurant, and Rendina’s Village Bakery. The White Cane donations help fund the Lion’s projects to benefit projects for the blind.

Just in case Dolores Fisher’s buddies are looking for her at work, she is now in Belle Vernon at Accessorize This. Dolores is one of the people in charge of the Pioneer Day festivities, and she doesn’t want anyone to think she’s lost.

Pioneer dance set

The Perry Area Heritage Society is hosting a Pioneer Days kick-off dance on Sept. 30 at Sampey Park from 7 to 10 p.m. Music is by Old Shoes. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the cost is $5 per ticket. Food and refreshments will be available for sale. For tickets, call Eldo and Shirley at 724-736-4078.

Christian Church

The Christian Church will hold an all-church picnic on Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. Ken and June Ansell have graciously agreed to have the picnic in their beautiful pavilion again this year. The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns and drinks and everyone is asked to bring a favorite side dish, salad or dessert.

Coming in October is the annual congregational dinner and meeting on Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. in the Family Life Center. As before, the dinner will be covered dish. Following dinner, the slate of board officers, elders, deacons and trustees will be voted on. The proposed budget for 2006 will also be presented to the congregation for approval.

Kid’s Klub

Kid’s Klub is ready to kick off with an important meeting for staff, parents and kids on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Family Life Center of the First Christian Church, Perryopolis.

A set-up meeting will be held and refreshments will be served. The ages this year will be kindergarten through fifth grade and the theme will be “Getting Back to Basics” with emphasis on learning the Books of the Bible, the Ten Commandments and Bible enrichment.

The Kid’s Klub meetings will be on Mondays from 5 to 7 p.m. The club is for all kids in the Perry community. The cost is $35 for one child and a discount for additional children.
