Aug. 30, 2005 Uniontown

Man charged

City police charged Darnell Humbert, 35, of 24 A Varndell St. with resisting arrest, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness at 1:34 a.m. Sunday after he allegedly struck 33-year-old Lenox Street resident Emma McElfresh on the sidewalk outside an East Main Street apartment building at 10:15 p.m. Saturday. Police allege that Humbert refused to disengage from the woman when an officer ordered him to do so, and when the officer attempted to pull Humbert away from the woman, he allegedly fought with the officer, causing both to be pulled to the ground. Police said with the assistance of another officer, Humbert was secured. Neither officer was injured, police said.

Runaway reported

State police said Diana Jo Miller, 15, of Uniontown was reported missing from a Smiley Road residence at 5:30 p.m. Thursday after she did not stay at a residence on Murphy Street in Uniontown as instructed by her mother.

South Union Twp.

Burglary attempted

State police said someone removed a large safe from the cash office at the Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse along Matthew Drive, moved the safe to the rear of the store and then fled without stealing anything sometime between 1:45 and 3:10 a.m. Sunday. Police said the investigation continues.

North Union Twp.

Vehicle caught fire

State police said Harry Engle, 35, was not injured when his 2001 Ford Windstar caught fire while he was driving the vehicle along the roadway at 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Dunbar Twp.

One injured

State police said neither Kevin Churchel, 18, nor his passenger, Cortney Hoole, 17, were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Dunbar-Ohiopyle Road at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, while Harold Henning, the operator of the other vehicle, sustained minor injuries. Both Churchel and Henning were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, while Hoole was not, police noted.

No one injured

State police said the vehicles involved in a two-vehicle accident at the Morrell Road and Route 119 intersection at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, sustained disabling damage, but no injuries resulted from the crash.

Police reported that Mary Robson, 58, of Scottdale operated the 2002 Subaru Forrester involved in the crash and Christen Stewart was a passenger. Both Robson and Stewart were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, police said. Walter Myers, 24, of Uniontown operated the other vehicle, a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier. Myers was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, police noted.

Gun stolen

City police said Shandon Hime reported Sunday that his .38-caliber Taurus revolver was stolen from his car outside of his Charles Street residence sometime overnight.

Church vandalized

State police said someone ransacked Canaan Church of the Brethren and spray painted the walls in the basement after entering the church along Canaan Church Road sometime between 6 p.m. Aug. 22 and 7:15 a.m. Aug. 23.
