Fayette police investigate two shootings

By Josh Krysak 2 min read

Two shootings had area investigators scrambling late Monday night, trying to piece together a homicide in Uniontown and an apparent non-fatal shooting in Connellsville. An unidentified man was gunned down in the street around 7:30 p.m. in what investigators called a homicide along Coolspring Street in Uniontown, adjacent to the Pennsylvania American Water Company.

Investigators at the scene refused to comment on the shooting, but paramedics from Uniontown Fireman’s Ambulance rushed the male victim to Uniontown Hospital for treatment.

According to Uniontown Police Chief Kyle Sneddon, the victim was pronounced dead sometime after the shooting occurred.

City police took one man into custody at the scene but Sneddon said as of 10:15 p.m., the police did not have a suspect in custody.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department brought in police dogs to scour the scene for evidence after the state police and city police cordoned off a half-block area along Coolspring and Dunlap streets.

Sneddon said the investigation was continuing late Monday night as “officers canvassed the neighborhood.”

Sneddon said the city police, who are heading the investigation are working in conjunction with the state police and the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office on the case and said that for now it is being “treated as a homicide at this time.”

“We have to wait for the coroner to rule on the manner of death,” Sneddon said. “We cannot release any other information at this time.”

Fayette County Coroner Dr. Phillip Riley could not be reached for comment late Monday.

No further information was available at press time.

In Connellsville, around 9 p.m., a woman at the intersection of Market and Prospect was shot by a man who fled the scene on foot and then was taken into custody in downtown Connellsville by Connellsville city police minutes later.

According to emergency officials, the woman was shot in the right shoulder and was transported to Highlands Hospital for treatment.

No further information could be gathered Monday night regarding the shooting in Connellsville.
