Franklin D. May
Franklin D. May, 70, of Uniontown, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at his resident. He was born April 8, 1934, in Zanesville, Ohio.
Mr. May was retired from the U.S. Navy having served honorably for over 24 years, was a Senior Commander of North Union VFW Post 8543, a member of AMVETS General Marshall Post No. 103 of Hopwood, the American Legion Post 51, North Union Volunteer Fire Department, and the Hutchinson Sportsmen’s Club. He was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1669.
In addition to his parents, Fred and Ida B. Murphy, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles May; and five brothers and one sister.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly J. Gillen May; three daughters, Robin Klugman of Uniontown, Donna Hirst of Milton Fla., and Linda Carpenter and her husband, Butch of Troy, N.Y.; three grandchildren, April Ciarlone and her husband, Michael, Ricky Snurkowski and his wife, Carrie and Brandi Hill; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Fred May and his wife, Wilma of Silver City, N.M.
Friends will be received in the JEROME W. SHELL FUNERAL HOME, 164 South Mount Vernon Ave., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Roland M. O’Brien officiating. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by North Union VFW Post 8543. The Catholic War Veterans Post 1669 will hold a service today at 7 p.m., in the funeral home.
