Elmer E. Miller
Elmer E. Miller, age 80, of Smithfield, Pa., went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, from his home with his girls and family by his side.
Elmer was born on February 23, 1924, in Fairchance, Pa., son of Fred Miller and Mary Ruth (Swaney) Miller Abel.
He was a World War II veteran who served as a Tank Commander of the Second Army Division. He also served in the Battle of the Bulge.
Elmer was a member of the Fairchance Free Methodist Church and American Legion Post No. 51 and V.F.W. Post No. 47 both in Uniontown.
He was employed for many years with the Albert Gallatin School District until his retirement in 1977.
He loved his family and enjoyed deer hunting and coon hunting.
He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Nell Rose Hardin Miller, a grandson, Robert Leadbeater, a sister, Mabel Miller, his twin brother, Omer Miller, brothers, Fred, Ray and Wallace Miller, and his parents.
Surviving are his daughters: Mabel Miller of Smithfield, Pa., Marjorie Bowers of Smithfield, Pa., Debra George and husband, Richard, of Uniontown, Pa., Judy Davis and husband, Richard, of Springfield, West Virginia, Elmerr Paulette Miller at home, and Robin Tanner and husband, Eric, of Fairchance, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers: Lester Miller and wife, Beverly, of Fairchance, Pa., Donald Miller and wife, Anna Louise, of Smithfield, Pa., Arnold Miller and wife, Marsha, of Surfside, South Carolina, and Wendell Abel and wife, Patty, of Fairchance, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, February 4, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with the Rev. James Jobes officiating.
Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa., where Military Rites will be accorded by Uniontown American Legion Post 51 and North Union VFW Post 8543.
Visitation was also held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
