Joan Wilson Owens, age 76, of Waynesburg, Pa., died Tuesday, February 1, 2005, in the home of her daughter in Strongsville, Ohio.

She was born May 8, 1928, in Uniontown, Pa., a daughter of Roy E. Wilson and Agnes Vizdosh Wilson.

Joan graduated in 1950 from Waynesburg College where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority.

Mrs. Owens worked for many years as Executive Director for Washington-Greene Community Action.

She was a former director for Greene County Children and Youth and also Hospice of Greene County.

Mrs. Owens was instrumental in bringing the Head Start Program to Greene County.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waynesburg.

Surviving are her husband, Fred R. Owens, whom she married November 22, 1950; one son, Richard W. Owens Sr. and his wife, Ellen, of Waynesburg, Pa.; one daughter, Patti Owens Gimper and her husband, Thomas, of Strongsville, Ohio; two grandchildren: Richard W. Owens Jr. and Heather St. Clair; and five great grandchildren.

Joan was the last of her immediate family.

Friends will be received at the BEHM FUNERAL HOMES INC., 182 West High Street, Waynesburg, Pa., Chuck Behm, Funeral Director, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held in FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHRUCH, College Street, Waynesburg, Pa., on Saturday, February 5, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David L. Barrett officiating.

Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
