George S. Chuzie
George S. Chuzie, 82, of Girard, Pa., died Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at Pleasant Ridge Manor West. He was born in Dante, Va., June 4, 1922, the son of the late Joseph and Bertha Tomolski Chuzie.
He graduated from high school in Gary, W.Va., and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked for 10 years as a coal miner, then for U.S. Steel and for 20 years at True Temper in Lake City. Mr. Chuzie was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed going to his hunting camp near Pittsfield.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Andy, Frank, Bill and Joe Chuzie; and a sister, Barb Braley.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth (Liz) Bencze Chuzie; a son, Tom Chuzie and his wife Sarah of Girard; two daughters, Terrie Sargent and her husband Butch of Anna Marie Island, Fla., and Susan Benton and her husband David of North Port, Fla.; one brother, Stephen Chuzie and his wife Mary of Erie, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Al Braley of Northeast, Pa.; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Friends may call at the BURTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 101 Olin Avenue in Girard with Fr. William O’Brien presiding. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
