FCCAA observes American Heart Month

Fayette County Community Action Agency’s (FCCAA) Healthy Living Program will host its kick off event at the Uniontown Mall on Valentine’s Day Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Value City Center Court. Participating in the event will be (from left) JoAnn Yocabet, community medical/dental sources; Betty Zackal, FCCAA Healthy Living project manager; Steve Courson, Healthy Living fitness consultant; and Kelly Loomis, Healthy Living registered dietician. In celebration of American Heart Month, Fayette County Community Action Agency’s (FCCAA) Healthy Living Program will host its kick-off event at the Uniontown Mall on Valentine’s Day Monday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Value City Center Court.

Approximately 15 health and human service professionals will be on hand throughout the day for this heart-healthy educational fair.

Speakers from local health and human service agencies will be giving presentations.

The schedule of presenters is as follows:

– 10 a.m., Betty Zackal, FCCAA Healthy Living project manager, welcome.

– 10:15 a.m., Steve Courson, FCCAA Healthy Living fitness consultant.

– Noon, Kelly Loomis, FCCAA Healthy Living registered dietician (nutrition).

– 2 p.m., Ben Neil, Fayette County Drug & Alcohol Commission (tobacco cessation).

– 3 p.m., Kelly Loomis, FCCAA Healthy Living registered dietician (nutrition).

– 4 p.m. Cathy Brady, Penn State Cooperative Extension (Eat Smart and Play Hard with Power Panter).

“Love Your Heart” is the first FCCAA Healthy Living event. Healthy Living is designed to promote disease prevention, health collaboration, healthy nutrition and fitness habits and decrease the risk of obesity in Fayette County residents. FCCAA was one of two organizations funded for this disease prevention and health collaboration nationally.

Community Action is collaborating with the Fayette County Nurse-Family Partnership, Community Medical Services, Fayette Community Health Improvement Partnership and the Fayette County Healthy Lifestyles Task Force on this community-based health and nutrition awareness initiative.

The Healthy Living initiative is a five-part program, including an eight-week educational series, speaking engagement to community groups, a television show, a resource Web site and speaking engagements to Community Action agencies across the United States who desire to replicate Community Action’s “Healthy Living” initiative.
