State police to handle calls for Redstone
REDSTONE TWP. – In the absence of local officers, the Pennsylvania State Police at Belle Vernon will be handling all calls in Redstone Township. Township supervisor Larry Williams said the township is interviewing candidates, but until new officers are hired, the state police will be handling incidents in the township.
The Belle Vernon station commander, Lt. Bernard Petrovsky, said he is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. if residents have any questions.
He said residents should not hesitate to call the station directly at 724-929-6262 or through Fayette County 9-1-1 for any police matter, not just life-and-death situations.
“I just want you to know, this is our busiest area. We put out about five guys each shift and we usually have one or two right in this area,” Petrovsky said.
In other matters, the supervisors approved a mercantile license for St. Vincent DePaul Furniture Sales at 1023 Main St., Republic.
Ray Polaski, the chairman of the board of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, said the furniture store is being moved to Republic for several reasons, including the recent Main Street renovations undertaken by the township.
Polaski said the former Calvaresi’s Hardware Store is an excellent location for the used furniture store.
“We will be cleaning, painting, putting up awnings and new signs,” Polaski said. “We should have our grand opening in April or May.”
The township is continuing improvements in Republic. Supervisor Larry Williams said demolition should begin in the former Kuznar’s Service Station at the corner of Main Street on Monday. The township will be handling the work.
Supervisor Ralph Rice asked residents in Grindstone, Red Hill and Rowes Run to avoid the alleys torn up by the Colonial Joint Sewer Authority project.
Rice said the alleys are muddy and the only solution to the problem is to let them dry out with as little use as possible. Rice said gravel added to the mud is just being pushed into the gutters, filling them up.
Rice said streets in the sewerage project area will be paved once the asphalt plants open in the spring.
