John J. Byrnes

John J. Byrnes, age 85, of Bensalem, Pa., and formerly of Collier, Fayette County, Pa., died Tuesday, February 8, 2005, in St. Mary’s Hospital Langhorne, Pa.

He was born March 31, 1919, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of John J. Byrnes and Ellen Reilly Byrnes.

John was retired from Long Island Lighting Company where he worked as a Security Locksmith.

He was a 20-year veteran of the United States Navy who served during World War II in the Atlantic Theatre of Submarine Operations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Cathleen Byrnes Gilkinson, and a brother, Edward M. Byrnes.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Marie E. Gazik Byrnes; a son, Michael E. Byrnes and his wife, Joan, of Langhorne, Pa.; two grandchildren: Michael Byrnes Jr. and his wife, Siobhan, of Newtown, Pa., and Karen Ann Del Rosso and her husband, Vincent, of Levittown, Pa.; and two brothers: Robert E. Byrnes of San Diego, California, and George Pilkington of Inwood, Long Island, New York.

The family will receive friends in the GOLDSBORO-TOMI FUNERAL HOME, 21 East Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, February 14, until 9:30 a.m. when a Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, Pa., with the Rev. Father Andrew M. Kawecki as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa., where graveside Military Honors will be accorded by the General George B. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood, Pa.

A Wake Service will be held in the Funeral Home today at 8:45 p.m.
