2-year-old shot while he slept

By Cindy Ekas-Brown 2 min read

State police are looking for a Uniontown suspect who allegedly shot a sleeping 2-year-old boy early Saturday morning in a North Union Township home. Police said the incident occurred at 4:27 a.m. when Marques Anthony Moore, 24, of Uniontown was handling a handgun, and it discharged inside the home.

The bullet traveled through a wall and struck the victim, 2-year-old Avery Michael Fuller, of 704 Woodview Terrace, Uniontown, as he slept in his bed, police said.

According to police, the child was rushed to the Uniontown Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, where police said he was admitted.

A spokesman in the Uniontown Hospital’s emergency room said he could not comment on the patient or his condition Saturday evening. The spokesman said he could not say if the patient had been transferred to another hospital for treatment.

Police provided no information on the boy’s condition or the severity of his injuries in a news release issued by state police trooper Brian Mears. Police said Mears was off duty Saturday night and would not be available for comment until he returned to work on Sunday morning.

In the news release, Mears did not indicate where the bullet struck the child or how serious the child’s injuries were. It was not known if the boy’s injuries were life threatening.

Although the police report indicated that the child had been transferred to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, a hospital employee said they had no record of a patient named Avery Michael Fuller as of 5 p.m. Saturday. No further information was available at that time on the 2-year-old or his condition.

Police said an arrest warrant has been issued, charging Moore with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Moore, who is from the Uniontown area, has been described as a black man, who is about 5-foot, 8-inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Moore is asked to contact the Uniontown barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police at 724-439-7111.
