Miller Underwood

Miller Underwood, 75, and a resident of Lorain, Ohio, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at his home. He was born June 30, 1929, in Scenery Hill, Pa., was raised in Denbo Heights, Pa., and has been a resident of Lorain, for the last 16 years.

He was employed by the Lorain U.S. Steel Mill for 40 years, retiring in 1987, from the Bop Shop. He was a member of the Apostle’s Doctrine Church in Lorain. Miller loved spending time with his grandchildren, gardening and was a Browns football fan and an Indians baseball fan.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Margaret C. (Weimer) Underwood; his daughter, Gladys J. Underwood of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his sons, Miller Richard of Oberlin, David B. of Lorain, and Michael A. of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren; his brother, Louis of Mesquite, Texas; his sister, Betty Whitcomb of Groton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Elliott and Agnes (McCarty) Underwood; his brothers, Robert, Elliott, Ernest, Russell and Edward Underwood; and by his sister, Margaret Simms, Bertha Baniak and Helen Pavlick.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the HEMPEL FUNERAL HOME, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m., from the funeral home. The Rev. Roy McGlugritch, Pastor of the Apostle’s Doctrine Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
