George Cassidy, 66, of Upper Deerfield Township, died Saturday morning February 12, 2005 at S.J. Hospital, Elmer. He had been sick for the last month and a hospital patient since last week. The husband of Doris “Dot” R. (nee Bennett) Cassidy, he was born in Ralph, Pa., and was the son of the late John T. Sr. and Clara O’Rourke Cassidy.

Raised in western Pennsylvania, he graduated from German Township High School in 1956, and moved to the Bridgeton area shortly after graduation. He worked at the former Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Bridgeton until 1984, and then at Wheaton Glass in Millville, as a forming operator until retiring at age 62.

Mr. Cassidy lived at his current address for 39 years.

He was a member of the 5th Ward AA and was a former Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop No. 98 in Bridgeton. In addition, he attended the Church of the Immaculate Conception and formerly bowled in the Owens Bowling League. He also coached at North Cumberland Little League.

He loved to hunt and fish.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, he is survived by one daughter, Vanessa A. Cassidy of Hopewell Township; two sons, Jeffery W. Cassidy at home and G. Timothy Cassidy of Aiken, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Amanda Arnold, Jeffery Jr., Nicole, Heather, Joshua, Seamus and Micah Cassidy; and two great grandchildren, “D.J.” and Brianna Cassidy. He is also survived by five brothers, John T. Cassidy Jr., and his wife Mary Joyce of Uniontown, Pa., Patrick Cassidy of Bridgeton, Robert Cassidy and his wife Betty of Bridgeton, Jerry Cassidy of S.C., and Paul Cassidy and his wife Bonnie of Masontown, Pa., six sisters, Regina Kristovich of Bridgeton, Mary Donato and her husband Anthony of Cedarville, Theresa Cassidy, Peggy Colvard and her husband James, Kathleen Cassidy and Sue Cassidy, all of Uniontown, Pa., three sisters-in-law, Olga Cassidy, Sara Cassidy and Dottie Cassidy, all of Bridgeton and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Gregory Cassidy, two brothers, Edward and Joseph Cassidy and a sister, Claire Caccamo.

The funeral will originate at the FREITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton, this morning at 9:30 a.m., and will be followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 North Pearl St., Bridgeton.

The interment will be made at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township.

Friends were received at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 and will be received this morning between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m.
