Joseph L. Haky

Joseph L. Haky, 69, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at home. He was born on Jan. 16, 1936, in Uniontown, Pa., son of Stephen R. Haky Sr. and Anna E. (Zira) Haky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Stephen R. Haky III, and father-in-law, Joseph S. Korelko Sr.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 44 years, Mary Jane (Korelko) Haky; his mother-in-law, Elilzabeth Korelko; a brother, Stephen R. Haky Jr., and wife, Jane of Uniontown, Pa.; nieces and nephews, Stephanie Haky Georgiana and husband, Larry, Amy Jacques and husband, Larry, Erica Haky, Jennifer Sterbutzel and husband, Jesse, Benjamin Venick, Jessalyn Venick, Joey Korelko III and Carolyn Rohm and husband, Kevin; a very close great-nephew, Larry S. Georgiana II, and great-niece and Godchild, Alexis Adelaide Georgiana; other great-nieces and nephews. Madison Korelko, Emily and Bailey Rohm, Stephen and Eddie Haky and Joshua Sterbutzel; brothers-in-law, Joseph Korelko and wife, Frances and David Korelko; and sister-in-law, Cindy Morgan and husband, Albert, all of Uniontown, Pa.

Joe was a lifelong member of Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, where he was a former Altar server and a member of the Choir. He was a graduate of St. John’s Roman Catholic High School, and had attended Waynesburg College. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1275, AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood, and was a former member of the Uniontown Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing and camping, and was a dedicated Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 682.

During peacetime he served his country with the United States Navy Sea Bee’s, and was employed with Haky Funeral Home and J.K. Packing Company, for many years, where he was affectionately nicknamed “Birdman”. A gentle giant, with a great sense of humor, he cared deeply for his family, his church and will be sadly missed.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 North Gallatin Ave., Uniontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, until 9:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m., in Saint Mary (Nativity) R.C. Church, with the Rev. Fr. Micah E. Kozoil and the Rev. Fr. Stephen Palsa as concelebrants. Interment will be at Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood. A Parish Wake Service will be held today at 2:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus Council 1275 will stand Honor Guard this evening. The Old Trails Scout Vespers will be conducted this evening at 7:30 p.m.
