Charles A. Kovak

Charles A. Kovak, age 81, of 348 West Church Avenue, Masontown, PA 15461 died peacefully at 6 p.m. in his home on Wednesday, February 16, 2005.

He was born September 7, 1923, in Ralph, Fayette County, Pa., son of George Kovak and Sophie (Polander) Kovak Semonick.

Charles had been employed as Meat Department Manager for the Thorofare Supermarket in Star City, West Virginia. He also worked at Sheehan’s Stop & Shop in Smithfield, Pa.

He served in the United States Army during World War II at the rank of Private.

“Chuck” was a member and Past Grand Knight of The Knights of Columbus Council 04266 in Masontown and was a Fourth Degree member of Albert Gallatin Assembly No. 926.

He was also a member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church in Masontown, a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 423 in Masontown, a member of The Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Point Marion, Pa., a social member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 in Masontown, and a member of the Pals Athletic Club where he served as Club Bartender for many years.

“Chuck” enjoyed calling bingo at the American Legion for many years.

On November 20, 1954, in All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Masontown, he married Elaine T. (Choplick) Kovak, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Darlene Kovak Schiller and her husband, Michael Schiller, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a son, Stephen Kovak of Tybee Island, Georgia; and a special friend, Christy Pagan of Tybee Island, Georgia.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, John Kovak, Frank Kovak and George Kovak.

The Family will receive Friends in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church on 7 River Avenue, Masontown, Pa., today (Saturday, February 19) in the FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL until 9:30 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.

A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Masontown, with the Rev. Father James F. Bump as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s (Our Lady of Perpetual Help) Church Cemetery, Leckrone, Pa., where Military Honors will be accorded at graveside by Masontown American Legion Post 423 and V.F.W. Post 4584.

Visitation was also held Friday from 2 to 9 p.m.

The Confraternity of Christian Mothers recited the Rosary in the Funeral Home on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard met at the Funeral Home on Friday at 7 p.m.

Parish Wake Service was held in the Funeral Home on Friday evening.
