Sullivan “Sully” F. D’Amico, age 87, of Dunbar, Pa., died Tuesday, February 15, 2005, in Excela Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant, Pa.

He was born on July 17, 1917, in Dunbar, Pa., son of Domenic and Caroline D’Amico.

“Sully” was the owner and operator of Pechin Shopping Village, a prominent Fayette County business.

He was awarded the 1998 Ernst and Young Western Pennsylvania Entrepreneur of the Year Award and was the recipient of The Salt and Light Humanitarian Award in 1999.

He was a member of Saint Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Dunbar, Pa., Carmichaels (Pa.) Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Commerce in Connellsville, Pa., Fayette Chamber of Commerce in Uniontown, Pa., Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania Sons of Italy No. 231, Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association and the Juniata Sportsmen’s Club.

During World War II he served his country with the United States Army and was a member of American Legion Post No. 146.

His parents, brother, Lewis D’Amico, and sister, Irene D’Amico Maddas, preceded him in death.

Surviving are two children: a son, Donald R. D’Amico and his wife, Mary Jane, of Dunbar, Pa., and a daughter, Carol Ann Spooner and her husband, Ray, of Wellington, Florida, and their mother, Lydia D’Amico of Wellington, Florida; five grandchildren: Patricia, Donald, Amy, Suzanne and Michelle; nine great-grandchildren; his sisters: Jenny Maddas and Helen Klink both of Dunbar, Pa.; a brother, Michael D’Amico and his wife, Donna, of Bradenton, Florida; and a special niece, Marie Martin of Dunbar, Pa.

Friends were received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC. AT SYLVAN HEIGHTS CEMETERY, A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, Pa., on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said today (Saturday, February 19) at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Ranch Road, Dunbar, with the Rev. Father J. Edward McCullough as Celebrant.

Private entombment will be held for the family at Sylvan Heights Chapel of Memories Mausoleum where General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood, Pa., will accord Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sullivan D’Amico Charitable Fund, Post Office Box 345, Dunbar, PA 15431.
