John D. Baker
John D. Baker, age 86, of Vanderbilt, Pa., died Friday, February 18, 2005, in Hillside Manor Personal Care Home, Uniontown, Pa., surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Perryopolis, Pa., on February 24, 1918, the son of Henry and Eliza (Leighty) Baker.
John was a member of East Liberty Presbyterian Church in Vanderbilt, Dawson-Vanderbilt Lions Club, DL&V Fire Company, and the Brownfield Community Center.
He had served with the United States Army during World War II and was retired from the Union Railroad.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Martin Baker, six brothers, William, James, Lawrence, Thomas, Lewis and Donald Baker, and two sisters, Mabel Baker Steadman and Hazel Baker Heller.
Surviving are a daughter, Sheila Baker Kurtz and her husband, Joseph Kurtz, and one grandson, Justin, all of Vanderbilt, Pa.; and one sister, Gladys Baker Shaw of Forestville, Maryland.
Friends will be received in the RALPH E. GALLEY FUNERAL HOME, Railroad Street, Dawson, Pa., today and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, February 22, until 11 a.m., the hour of the Service with Pastor John Jennings officiating.
Interment will follow in Dickerson Run Cemetery.
