Uniontown man faces trial in shooting case
A Uniontown man will stand trial on charges that he fired a gun near youths who were playing at a Woodview Terrace playground Dec. 19. Magisterial District Judge Deberah Kula ordered Jason Brant Young, 23, of 33 Whiteman Ave. held for court on five counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count of disorderly conduct.
At a preliminary hearing last week, a woman testified that she saw Young fire four or five shots while her children were in the area. No one was injured in the shooting.
State police trooper Sandra Soliday testified that Young provided a statement in which he said he and his brother were there to pick up his son to take him to a birthday party. Young said somebody yelled something from a green sport-utility vehicle, and a white male fired at him from the vehicle, Soliday testified.
Young said he drew his .45-caliber handgun and fired five or six times at the vehicle, Soliday said. He reportedly told her the gun was registered to him and that he had a permit to carry it.
Soliday also said Young cooperated with her investigation, and that he said protecting the children who were playing outside was one of the reasons he returned fire.
Young, who did not testify at the hearing, remains free on $10,000 unsecured bail.
