Helen L. Brown
Helen Letitia Banks Brown, 102, of 26 Tuskegee Terrace, Uniontown, Pa., departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Mount Macrina Manor. She was the oldest of five children. Her parents, one brother and three sisters preceded her in death. She was the mother of six children, which one son and two daughters preceded her in death.
She was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Fairchance, Pa., for 88 years. She served as Sunday School teacher, assistant church clerk, church clerk, president and president emeritus of the Senior Choir and group leader for the Baptist Training Union. She was named Mother of Mount Calvary Baptist Church and Mother of the Youghiogheny Western Baptist Association (Y.W.B.A.). She served as statistician of the Women’s Home & Foreign Mission, along with other capacities of the YWBA. She was a blessing, an inspiration and loved by all who knew her and called her Mom, Nana, Grandmother or Mother Brown. She will be greatly missed.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her daughter and caregiver, Martha E. Burke and her son, Archie Brown, both of Uniontown, Pa.; a daughter Mary B. Rhodes of Dayton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 15 great great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and close family friends.
Viewing will be from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at the LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 East Main St., Uniontown, Pa. Homegoing services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, from the Lantz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Nathaniel R. Walker officiating. Interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa.
