The Brownsville Rotary Club has named Melissa DeSimone, daughter of Bernard and Debra DeSimone of Grindstone, as student of the month for October 2004. She is an active member of her school, church and community. Some activities include president and head drum major of the band, president of choir and president of the Brownsville Chapter of the International Thespian Society. She is also involved with the jazz ensemble, chamber choir, newspaper staff, National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, Youth Education Association and the musicals.
Out of school, she is a cast member of Flatwoods Production Company in Flatwoods, an altar server, lector, youth ministry member and assistant teacher in her church’s program at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Band Post 47.
Her future plans are torn between a secondary English or history teacher and an elementary teacher. Her choice of school is still undecided.
