Hubert P. Coleman
Hubert P. Coleman, 90, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, in Select Specialty Hospital, Greensburg. He was born January 18, 1915, in Mount Pleasant, a son of the late Patrick and Martha Wanatosky Coleman.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for 33 years as a skilled glassworker for Bryce Brothers Glass Co., and later worked at the Western Center School and Hospital for seven years. Mr. Coleman was an outstanding athlete at Ramsay High School. He was the quarterback of the 1933 WPIAL champion football team. He also played basketball and was the high jumper and pole vaulter for the track team. He, along with “Chops” Costabile and several other local businessmen, started the first midget football program in Mount Pleasant in 1949. He was also the first coach of the younger team, while Turk King coached the older boys. He was a Boy Scout leader for the Saint Joseph Troop, and he also coached the 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team. For many years, he was the player-coach for the Bryce Brothers Basketball team in Mount Pleasant. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Mount Pleasant.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Coleman and Margaret Hribal.
Surviving are two sons, Hubert P. Coleman and his wife Loretta and William Coleman and his wife Susan, all of Connellsville; seven grandchildren, Hubert P. Coleman III, Anthony Coleman, Diane Coleman Henderson and her husband Larry, William H. Coleman, Taylor Bauer, Trent Bauer, Molly Bauer, Justin Moser and Zoe Moser; his brother, Thomas Coleman of Mount Pleasant; and his sister, Annamae Olson and her husband Paul “Swede” of Youngwood.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 406 East Washington Street, Mount Pleasant, where services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev.
