Arthur R. Savage Sr.
Arthur Ray Savage Sr., age 95, of Markleysburg, Pa., passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2005, in Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa.
He was born September 8, 1909, in Farmington, Pa., son of Lloyd Savage and Cora Mae (Maust) Savage.
“Art” was a member of Markleysburg Church of God, a Founder and Charter Member of the Markleysburg-Henry Clay Volunteer Fire Department where he was First Chief for 25 years, a member of the Fayette County Firemen’s Association and the Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s Association.
He was a Charter Member of the Fort Necessity Lion’s Club.
“Art” had taught in the McCracken one room school at the Five Forks intersection on Dinner Bell Road and was an Assistant Postal Carrier in the Markleysburg Area for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mildred Dennis Savage in 1992, sisters and brothers, Nora Savage, Edna McElroy, Clarence Savage, Chester Savage, Bessie Prinkey, Margaret Harter, Lula Couch, Wilbur Savage, and parents.
Surviving are a son, Arthur R. “Ray” Savage Jr. and his wife, Marlene, of Markleysburg, Pa.; three grandchildren: Joy Lynn Rectanus of Baltimore, Maryland, Renee Wingrove and Ray Savage III both of Markleysburg, Pa.; six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a sister, Peggy Colbenson of Stockbridge, Georgia.
Friends will be received in the CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME OF FARMINGTON, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, February 27, until 1 p.m., the hour of Service with the Rev. Shirley Norman officiating.
Interment will follow in Thomas Cemetery, Markleysburg, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Markleysburg-Henry Clay Volunteer Fire Department or the Marclay Ambulance Service.
MHCVFD will hold Services in the Funeral Home today at 8 p.m.
Visitation was also held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Fayette County Firemen’s Association held Services on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
