Group to perform”The West Virginians,” a nationally recognized show choir from Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va., will be presenting a concert of sacred music at the First Baptist Church of Connellsville on Sunday, March 6, at 10:45 a.m.
During their 27-year history, “The West Virginians” have given nearly 3,400 performances throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. In November 1997, they represented the American Baptist Churches, USA at the 125th Anniversary Celebration of the Nagaland Baptist Convention in India.
They also toured the mission fields of Chiang Mai, Thailand. In addition to their live performances, “The West Virginians” have produced several television specials, a 30-minute video, and 12 full-length recordings.
The group has also been designated “the official ambassadors for the state of West Virginia.”
Now in its 27th year, “The West Virginians are under the interim directorship of Joe Allen, assistant professor of music at Alderson Broaddus College.
The members are selected each year by audition on the basis of their character and their multi-talented musical abilities. Selected members of “The West Virginians” also serve as student admissions representatives.
Prospective students will have the opportunity to meet with them after each performance.
Alderson Broaddus College is a health-related and professional educational institute firmly rooted in the liberal arts.
The campus is located along U.S. Route 119 in Philippi, W.Va., and is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches, USA and the West Virginia Baptist Convention.
The performance of sacred music will be a part of the Sunday morning worship service at 10:45 a.m. at First Baptist Church.
The church is located at 301 S. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville. There is no admission charge for this performance, although usual Sunday worship offerings will be received.
Interim Pastors Ralph Prinkey II and Geary Witt invite the public to attend this performance of sacred music.
