Township gets $420,500 grant for water lines
State Sen. Richard Kasunic announced on Dec. 15 that Jefferson Township received a $420,500 state grant to extend water lines in three separate areas of the community. Kasunic said the funding will enhance efforts by the Jefferson Township Supervisors “to make the community more economically viable,” and added that the project will provided these areas with a better, more reliable water source.
Supervisor Jeff Redman said that the project will extend waterlines onto areas of Jess King Road, Pig Lane, Albany Road, Taylor and Grindstone Road.
“Everybody in these areas is on a well, and some of the wells are contaminated,” said Redman, commenting on the need for waterlines to be extended.
Redman said the water authority will pick up 35 to 40 new customers after the project is complete.
He said the project will be put out to bid in the next two months, but the supervisors and the authority’s engineers, SP&K Engineering, do not yet have a date set.
“They still have some engineering to do, but it will go out in the next month or two,” said Redman. “Hopefully the project will be complete by the end of the summer. We want to continue to move along with the project and get water to those areas.”
The grant was provided through the 2003 Community Development Block Grant Competitive Program administered by the State Department of Community and Economic Development.
