Frank R. Gruber
Frank R. Gruber, 73, of Masontown, Pa., died peacefully with his loving wife, Dorothy at his side on Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at the Uniontown Hospital. He was born on Aug. 2, 1931, in Orient, Pa., a son of Marie (Enz) Gruber of Orient, Pa., and the late Andrew Gruber Sr., who passed away in 1958. His brother, Fred Gruber also preceded him in death.
Frank was a member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church of Masontown, Faith-Gray-McArdle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584, Fort Mason American Legion Post 423, and the Pal’s Social Citizens Club. He retired from Fruehauf Corporation, where he had been employed for 28 years.
During the Korean War, he proudly served his country with the United States Army 101st Airborn Division Screaming Eagles, 40th Infantry, where he was wounded in battle. He was decorated with a Purple Heart, NATO and Korean Combat medals.
He was a terrific husband, dad, grandfather and friend, who was always first to offer help in any way he could. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and bird watching, but most of all he loved doing all these things with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 49 years, Dorothy (Berdar) Gruber; children, Donald F. Gruber and wife, Gina of Masontown, Pa., Frank Gruber Jr., and wife, Marilyn of Greensburg, Pa., Paula J. Volansky and husband, Jerry of Masontown, Pa; grandchildren, Katrina and Gabrielle Gruber, Megan, Corey and Jesse Gruber and Troy and Summer Volansky; step-grandchildren, Ashley Hixson Sarver and Joey Hixson; a brother, Andrew Gruber Jr., and wife, June of Willowick, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 515 North Main St., Masontown, Pa., today and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, until 9:30 a.m., when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
