Edward R. Stepanic/Stevens, 89, of Smithfield, Pa., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at the Uniontown Hospital. He was born at Greene County, Pa., on May 3, 1915, a son of the now late Michael and Stella Stepanic.

He attended the Smithfield United Methodist Church of Smithfield, Pa., and Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church in Fairchance, Pa. He was a retired coal miner having worked as a mechanic and powerhouse engineer for the Buckeye Coal Company of Greene County, Pa. He belonged to the United Mine Workers’ Association.

Surviving are three children, William Blaine Stevens and fianc?, Karen Kelly of Elkins, W.Va., Robert Sherman of Corona, Calif., and Nancy Sherman of Woodmere, N.Y.; and one sister, Connie Bliss and husband, Walter of Jeffersonton, Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Feather Stepanic/Stevens; two brothers, Eugene and Raymond; and three sisters, Adaline, Eleanor and Esther.

The Family will receive friends in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF SMITHFIELD, PA., today from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Maggie J. Foreman, Pastor of Smithfield United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa.
