Frank J. “Fred” Furin Jr., age 83, a resident of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, January 13, 2005, in Cherry Tree Nursing Center, Uniontown. He was born in Orient, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, February 2, 1921, son of Frank J. and Sue (Mato) Furin.

“Fred” was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elks B.P.O.E. No. 370, General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa., American Legion Post 51 and V.F.W. Post 47 both in Uniontown.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He retired from Mark Thompson Inc. after 45 years.

“Fred” was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed all types of sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Dorothy M. Furin, and two brothers, Robert Furin and Theodore “Chick” Furin.

“Fred” is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Russo Furin; and his daughter, Patricia Ann Furin Malec and her husband, Freddy, of Uniontown, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the J. HARRY JOHNSTON FUNERAL HOME, 65 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, January 16, from Noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 17, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 71 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., with the Reverend Paul N. Frank Jr. officiating.

Private interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown.funeralhome.com
