Veronica ‘Von’ Maykuth Carothers Halvonik, age 88, of Perryopolis, Pa., died Wednesday, January 12, 2005, in Stella Maris Personal Care Home, Baltimore, Maryland.

Veronica was born January 6, 1917, in Dearth, Pa., the daughter of Frank Maykuth and Pauline (Salina) Maykuth.

“Von” was a member of Saint John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Perryopolis and the Saint John’s Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, John Richard Carothers, M.D., her second husband, George J. ‘Hal’ Halvonik, two brothers, Joseph and John Maykuth, and three sisters, Marie Maykuth, Ann Maykuth Halvonik and Pauline Maykuth Sajna.

Veronica is survived by a son, John Richard Carothers and his wife, Francis, of Baltimore, Maryland; a daughter, Rebecca Carothers Bank and her husband, William, of Baltimore, Maryland; two grandsons: Chase Matthews and Brent Anthony Carothers, both of Baltimore, Maryland; and a sister, Catherine Maykuth Bieniek of Orwell, Ohio.

Friends will be received at the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME, 106 Independence Street, Perryopolis, Pa., today (Monday, January 17) until 9:30 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.

A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in Saint John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis, with the Reverend Father John T. Euker as Celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. John The Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be made to Saint John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis.

Visitation was also held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Parish Rosary was recited in the Funeral Home on Sunday at 3 p.m.

A Wake Service was held on Sunday at 8 p.m.
