Jack J. Arndt Sr.
Jack J. Arndt Sr., age 80, of 318 Martin Hill Road, Martin, PA 15460 died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, January 30, 2005, in his home. He was born June 29, 1924, in Mount Sterling, Fayette County, Pa., son of the now late Amelia (Arndt) Abbott.
Jack had been employed as a coal miner for 30 years at United States Steel Corporation’s Robena Mine.
He served in the United States Army at the rank of Private First Class during World War II and in the United States Air Force at the rank of Private during the Korean War.
Jack was a member of Saint Mary’s Orthodox Church in Masontown, Pa., United Mine Workers of America Local 6321 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 in Masontown.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary (Pritz) Arndt; three children: Cheryl and her husband, Jonathan “Bob” Lint of Morgantown, West Virginia, Gregory M. Arndt of Boise, Idaho, and Jack Arndt Jr. and his wife, Joann, of Smithfield, Pa.; eight grandchildren: Matthew Lint, Jonathan Lint, Brian Arndt, Elizabeth Arndt, Kaitlin Arndt, Alex Arndt, Kara Arndt and Megan Arndt; and a brother, William Abbott and his wife, Rita, of Martin, Pa.
Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church at 7 River Avenue, Masontown, Pa., on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, February 2, until 11 a.m. when a Panachida Service will be held in the FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL with the Rev. Father Rumen Stoychev of Saint Mary’s Orthodox Church, Masontown, officiating.
Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery, Masontown, where Military Honors will be accorded at graveside by V.F.W. Post 4584 and American Legion Post 423 both of Masontown.
Parastas Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
