AG eliminates positions
The Albert Gallatin Area School District has eliminated the positions of assistant middle school principals in the district, citing financial reasons and diminishing enrollment. District Superintendent Walt Vicinelly said that the district only recently created the position, converting two teachers that had been classified as “head teachers” to the principal positions but added that reorganization was needed.
Vicinelly said that the two principals will return to teaching duties in the district and added that the position shift will save the financially strapped district about $45,000.
“It is always good to have more people and any time you change a position, you have to go through a reorganization process,” Vicinelly said.
In other business at its meeting this week, the board directed district Architect Michael Molnar to move forward with plans for the purchase of property in Fairchance for the proposed construction of a new A.L. Wilson Elementary School.
Last month the board held a public hearing to discuss the proposal for the new school and the purchase of land along in Fairchance for the new facility.
Vicinelly said the district is still negotiating with the landowner on the price of the prospective ground.
The board also:
– Accepted the resignations due to retirement of teachers Beverly Jenkins and Barry Foreman, and the resignations of Hilari Hudock and Domonique Guerrieri Sebeck from the district.
– Held a two-hour executive session for personnel matters.
– Hired 14 new teachers for instructor positions across the district. The new teachers include Kim Swaney, Brandon Gift, Kevin Milliken, Wendy Craft, Crystal Maykuth, Ken Musko, Renee Rosie, Lisa Potkul, Laurie Sparks, Michael Koon, Maryann Rush, James Davis, Elizabeth Fike and Jennifer Vail.
