FCCAA to operate farm stand
Fayette County Community Action Agency Inc. (FCCAA) will operate its farm stand at the FCCAA Food Bank, 119 N. Beeson Ave. in Uniontown, July 12 until Oct. 31 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The farm stand is open to the public and provides area residents with fresh Pennsylvania produce at affordable prices.
“We obtain the produce from local farmers throughout Fayette County. By doing this we are not only providing nutritious, fresh produce items to the residents of Fayette County, but we are also assisting the local growers,” said Jamie Brink, FCCAA Food Bank project manager.
The Uniontown site offers a convenient location to area residents to stop by and purchase the locally grown vegetables and fruits. Consumers may use the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and Senior Farmer’s Market Vouchers, as well as cash, to purchase the items.
According to Brink, coordinator of the farm stand project, women with the WIC vouchers can purchase an allocated amount of produce with the vouchers, and the amount will vary according to the WIC guidelines.
“The proceeds from the farm stand go directly back to the community and assist in meeting the nutrition needs of the Fayette County residents in need,” said Brink.
Through a network of area agencies, food pantries and soup kitchens, the food bank provides food assistance to more than 3,000 households monthly.
