One of their fund-raisers is a wonderful three-ring, hardbound cookbook, comprised of 668 recipes, contributed by the choir members and their families. The cookbooks may be purchased for $15 each, by contacting Pat Filak at 724-736-8414, Joanne Torruiso at 724-736-2994 or Anna-Mae Warnick at 724-736-4032. If anyone would like to have the books shipped, there will be an additional shipping charge of $2 per book. Any checks should be written to the Diocese of Greensburg and sent to Patricia Filak at 67 Cemetery Road, Perryopolis, Pa., 15473, or given to one of the three members listed above. The choir has also recorded a CD, containing inspirational music. The CDs are also available for $15 each, and may be purchased by contacting any of the diocesan choir members.

Request made
Staff Sgt. Rick Adams from Star Junction is stationed in Iraq and his mother would like people to send him news from home. You can send letters to Rick at S. Sgt. Rick Adams, 332 AEW/ELRS/LGRVM APO AE0 9315-9997. Joanne says that it takes two weeks for letters to arrive and military mail requires only a regular stamp. Rick reported to his mother that it’s 120 degrees in Iraq. So if you think summer has been hot here.

All proceeds go to the scholarship fund for outstanding high school seniors. Get details at www.racecanoes.com or at Hazelbaker’s Canoe in Layton.
First Christian Church
– Last Sunday, Greg and Kim Phillips presented their son, Kaleb Allan, to God and the congregation. Pastor John Matsko gave encouragement to Greg and Kim as they nurture Kaleb as a child of God. Kaleb’s extended family, friends and congregational members were in attendance. June and Ken Ansell are great-grandparents, Dan and Vicky Gowton are maternal grandparents and Jeff and Cindy Phillips are paternal grandparents.
– There is still time to sign up for camp. The church will be contributing half of the tuition for each youth member of our church to attend the camp of their choice. However, because of the increased rate, some of our youth will be unable to attend. Therefore, we are inviting the congregation to prayerfully consider donating a portion or all of the remaining tuition for one of these youths so they will have an opportunity to participate in the camp experience. Your generosity would be greatly appreciated!
– Don’t forget to write your psalm. The deadline is July 31. Please phone the church if you need help at 724-736-8311.
Moose Golf
The race for the coveted title of club champion is going strong with the participants feigning indifference but demanding that everyone play according to the PGA rules to the ninth degree. This puts a strain on the long ball hitters, and the ones that carry a low handicap, as they have more of a chance of reaching the goal than the hackers such as yours truly.
My fellow hackers, Bill Hill, that’s his name but he goes by the moniker of Hill Billy, Bob Jarabeck, Ted Lytle, Terry Harkins and Jack Murtland, who have as much of a chance of winning it as a fly in a frog pen. The Guru, having just played a round with Roger Arison, Tim Tisot and Joe Wolfe, had to listen to them lament how their handicap was too low and would not be able to compete with the sandbaggers, shot a near perfect score, all the while leaving a little mound of sand when scoring a birdie. Golf, what a game.
Cactus League
It was a great loss to the club to hear that our beloved sponsor Gene Cable Sr. was forced to drop out of this year’s race for the title of club champion due to an illness. He was a contender and a major player in the club. However, the good news is that the prognosis leads one to believe he will be back next year, God willing. Those playing to near perfect scores are Adam Winterhalter, Scot Hazelbaker, Gene Cable Jr. and the darling of the links Ted Lytle. It’s a mystery how they do it week after week, with the pressure being what it is in this league. It must be talent.
